CAN I SIGN UP AT ANY TIME?
Sign up now! You can only sign up until we are full. This has to do with location restrictions. We reserve the right to close registration at any time, and people signing up after that will be put on the waiting list. You will receive notice by email about the state of your registration.
WHO IS WELCOME AT THE GAME JAM?
Everybody with some experience or just a big ambition in game development is welcome. It helps if you are a game developer or game student of course.
IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PRESS TO COVER THIS EVENT?
Yes there is, and you are welcome to report on the event. Please contact sjors@dutchgamegarden for the most opportune time to visit. Since this is a unique worldwide event, we strongly encourage people to take an interest and we would be happy to take some time and show you around.
IS THERE HARDWARE AND / OR SOFTWARE AVAILABLE TO USE?
No, there is not. Your own software is always the best to use, and we can never predict what people will be using. Since this is a very large event, we count on you to bring your own computer and install whatever software you like.
ARE THERE RESTRICTIONS AS TO WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO MAKE?
Nope. Make whatever you like within the context of the theme that will be announced friday evening. Make it in Flash, Unity, Java, Game Maker, or even a board game. The only rule is that you have to be able to upload your game so that people around the world can download and play it. If you are making a board game, provide instructions as to how print/make it yourself.
WHAT DOES THE DUTCH JURY EXPECT FROM A GAME?
On Sunday 15:00, you are expected to present a working, playable game to the other teams and the jury. Emphasis lies on the synthesis between all disciplines (art, audio, design, programming). Making games is a team effort, and we expect you to work together well. That being said, originality and quality in all fields will count more than anything. Do your best to try something else for a change!
WHAT HAPPENS TO MY GAME? WHO ‘OWNS’ IT?
The team/makers of the game hold all IP rights. However, the Global Game Jam may use the games for demonstration as it sees fit. All games must be posted in the state they are in as of the close of the GGJ event (Sunday). If the team/makers of the game wish to upload subsequent versions, they are welcome and we will host and archive them. All participants and all games entered for GGJ must agree to a Creative Commons, share, alter, no sell license.
EVENT TIME AND DATE
Friday 28-01-2011 16:00 (registration opening) – sunday 30-01-2011 20:00
WHAT IS THE COST OF PARTICIPATION?
€45 incl. VAT/BTW. You will receive notice about how and when to pay by email.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME TO THE JAM?
- laptop or other computer
- UTP cable for internet access (wireless is not as reliable as you might think with 140 people)
- a USB stick of at least 2GB (for your own convenience)
- brainstorming tools, pens, dice etc.
- video or photo camera, music instruments, speakers (whatever you may need)
- toiletries like tooth brush etc.
- sleeping mat / air matress & sleeping bag
- chip card (to buy coffee or soda drinks when the cafeteria is not open)
ME AND MY FRIEND WOULD LIKE TO BE IN THE SAME TEAM. IS THAT POSSIBLE?
We strongly encourage you to come alone and work with new people, since that’s what the event is all about! But for those who don’t feel confident enough to do so, we do allow you to team up yourself. But please keep in mind to have different disciplines in your team (art, programming, design, audio) necessary to make a good game. Teams consist of 6 people, so if you have a group of 4 you will work with 2 others. Everything will be arranged on friday evening at the start of the event, but please let us know by emailing email@example.com in advance. Let everybody sign up individually as well!
